Memorial Day

Today is Memorial Day here in the US.  Most of us will cook burgers and hot dogs on the grill, maybe go boating, and generally have a good time with family and friends.  But please remember why today is a holiday.

In the 240 years since the founding fathers declared independence from Great Britain, many countries and organizations have tried to take our freedom, and the freedom of others in other countries.    American service members have always stepped up to protect that freedom.  And many thousands of them have died defending that freedom.  Memorial Day is a day to recognize and remember those who have fallen performing that service.

Please enjoy your holiday as much as possible.  Those who gave their lives for your freedom would probably not want their death to be in vain.  But also please take a moment to thank them and remember them.  Say a prayer for them.  Remember that their ultimate sacrifice was for you and others around the world to be able to enjoy these days.
